Germany sweeps Iran to end 2024 VNL campaign on a high note


Germany eked out a convincing win to close out its campaign in the 2024 Men's Volleyball Nations League (VNL), disposing Iran in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20, on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Moritz Karlitzek paced the Germans with 21 points anchored on 17 attacks, two blocks, and two aces as they exited the tournament with a 5-7 win-loss slate while Iran ended up with a 2-10 slate.

Moritz Reichert provided the lift with 13 markers while Ruben Schott and Tobias Krick each chimed in with four markers as Germany bounced back from a four-set loss to Team USA on Saturday.

"We're super happy that we finished the VNL this year for us with a victory and can go home with a good feeling,” said the 6-foot-3 outside hitter Karlitzek.

“Well, I can speak about the tournament here was perfectly organized. We felt really well and also playing in front of the crowd was amazing. The fans were all the time supporting us so we had a good time. Thank you for supporting us and making this event nice and well,” added Karlitzek.

Amin Esmaeilnezhad led Iran with 19 points while Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh Firouzjah chipped in 10.
