PNVF president Ramon 'Tats' Suzara announced the development on Saturday on the sidelines of the Manila leg of Volleyball Nations League at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Suzara said Frigoni's appointment was effective June 15.

"He's a veteran coach. We want to have a coach who has a lot of experience to develop more advanced skills sa World Championship," the volleyball federation president told GMA News Online.

Frigoni previously handled the Italian national team which he steered to the World Championship title in 1990. He also handled the national team of Netherlands from 2001 to 2004.

He last handled Italy's men's U-21 team in 2021.

Sergio Veloso, who handled the men's team in the recent AVC Challenge Cup, will be assigned to the country's junior development program.

"He's in charge of feeding new, aspiring players to the national team now," Suzara said.

Frigoni is expected to handle the national team which will compete in the 2025 FIVB Men's World Championships in Manila.
