Iran stuns USA for breakthrough win in VNL
World no. 15 Iran pulled off an upset against world no. 6 USA, 26-28, 25-23, 25-18, 26-28, 15-13, in the second day of the Volleyball Nations League Week 3 in Manila.
Poriya Hossein Khanzadeh Firouzjah led Iran with 23 points as his squad barged into the win column of the league.
Meanwhile, TJ Defalco had 33 points from 30 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Matt Anderson and Jordan Ewert had 13 and 10 points apiece as USA slid to 3-6.
Earlier, Germany defeated France, 25-23, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, as Gyorgy Grozer led the squad with 21 points.
Germany now has four wins and five losses, while France slipped to 6-3.
Germany will return on Thursday to face Canada at 11 a.m., while Iran and Netherlands will go against each other at 3 p.m. At 7 p.m., Brazil will go against USA to cap the third day of the league's Manila leg.
