Alas Pilipinas at the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Men


After the Philippine women's volleyball team copped the historic bronze in the AVC Challenge Cup in Manila, it is now the turn of the national men's volleyball team Alas Pilipinas to compete in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Men in Bahrain.

Here are the things you need to know about the team's participation:

Lineup

The team will be led by national team veteran Marck Espejo

Joining Espejo as outside hitters are collegiate standouts Jade Disquitado, Nico Almendras, and Noel Kampton, and Cignal player Jau Umandal, with Leo Ordiales as the opposite.

Kim Malabunga, JP Bugaoan, Rwenzmel Tagubolos, and Lloyd Josafat are the middle blockers, while Owa Retamar and Joseph Bello will be the setters. 

Reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player Josh Ybañez is tasked to be the the libero, along with Vince Lorenzo.

Sergio Veloso handles the national men's team.

Schedule and results

The Philippines is grouped in Pool A with China and Bahrain.

This page will be updated once results come in.

Pool B is composed of Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Pakistan, while Pool C has South Korea, Indonesia, and Qatar. Pool D, meanwhile, is composed of Vietnam, Australia, and Chinese Taipei.

Only the top two teams of each pool will advance to the quarterfinals.

The Philippines placed tenth in the 2023 edition of the tourney.
