Jia De Guzman cops AVC Best Setter award, Angel Canino is Best Opposite Spiker

Alas Pilipinas made another feat following its bronze medal finish in the recently-concluded 2024 AVC Challenge Cup on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

This as Jia De Guzman and Angel Canino were hailed as the Best Setter and Best Opposite Spiker for helping the Filipinas deliver their best finish in 63 years.

De Guzman and Canino, who was originally an outside hitter, were formally given the plums during an awarding ceremony following the gold medal match between Vietnam and Kazakhstan.

Vietnam's Thi Bich Tuyen Nguyen was hailed as the tournament Most Valuable Player for steering the squad to its back-to-back AVC titles, pouring in a game-high 26 points in their gold medal match against Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's team captain Sana Anarkulova and Australia's scoring machine Caitlin Tipping were recognized as the two Best Outside Hitters while Yuliya Yakimova and Thanh Thuy Le of Kazakhstan and Vietnam, respectively, captured the Best Middle Blocker plums.

Another Vietnamese bet in Khanh Dang Nguyen bagged the Best Libero honors.
