What's next for Alas Pilipinas after historic AVC bronze medal?
Alas Pilipinas just wrapped up its remarkable run in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup, seizing the bronze medal to deliver the country's first-ever podium finish in the continental contest.
So, what's next for the Filipinas?
Shortly after their battle for third against Australia, Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) announced on social media that the national squad will fly to South Korea to play in an exhibition game on June 7.
In the post, all 14 members are expected to remain in the team as they prepare for the FIVB Challenger Cup slate in July, where they will face the likes of higher-ranked teams in Kenya, Argentina, and Puerto Rico.
The winner of the tournament will seal its place in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) next year.
Aside from the exhibition game, Alas is also tipped to see action in the SEA V. League.
"Well, yes, the AVC Challenger Cup will be here. We have a friendly match here in Korea, and the SEA V. League is coming in July and August, so this is for the national team," head coach Jorge de Brito said.
De Brito's fate with Alas Pilipinas, though, is still up in the air as he is set to discuss with PNVF a potential contract extension.
