Jorge de Brito open to discuss contract extension with PNVF, wishes to stay with Alas

Alas Pilipinas head coach Jorge Souza De Brito

Jorge de Brito said he's willing to sit down with the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and discuss a potential contract extension as the Alas Pilipinas Women head coach.

De Brito, though, can't divulge when that meeting will take place as his contract won't be expiring until June 30.

"We have to discuss... It is still unofficial only. We are close to keeping on talking because [the contract] will finish on the 30th," de Brito said on the heels of their AVC Challenge Cup semifinals loss to Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

The PNVF previously said it's intending to appeal for the Brazilian tactician to stay at the helm, a statement which came after de Brito steered the Philippines to an unblemished run in the pool play of the AVC.

De Brito was tapped to take the reins for the national team in 2021 after the federation secured a grant from the FIVB, which subsidized his salary.

De Brito, who is set for another tour of duty with Chinese Taipei, said that he wishes to remain as the Alas mentor, saying the potential of the team is high.

"What I have to do is work hard at the end of the contract. Of course, my desire, my wish is staying with these guys. All the players in the Philippines, there's a lot of potential," he said.
