PNVF reveals new moniker Alas Pilipinas

The Philippine National Volleyball Federation on Wednesday opened another chapter in its story as it revealed its new moniker: Alas Pilipinas.

The moniker will be used for both its men's and women's teams.

During the press conference in Mandaluyong, it was said that the name 'Alas' came from the Filipino word for ace. An ace is a point from a service.

On top of being a volleyball term, the ace is also the highest ranking card in a deck of cards. It was said that the name also represents the Filipinos' "unbeatable, indomitable spirit to overcome and come out on top."

The logo was designed by Team Manila.

"We’re delighted to kickstart this new chapter for Philippine volleyball by unveiling Alas Pilipinas, our new names for the national teams both in indoor and beach and for both men and women. We’re humbled with the outpouring support that volleyball has garnered over the past few years and we believe that it’s high time for us to rally on one singular name for our national teams," PNVF president Ramon Suzara said in a statement.

Present also in the announcement of the new name were some members of the national team such as Eya Laure, Sisi Rondina, Vanie Gandler, Dawn Macandili-Catindig, and Jia De Guzman for the women's team, along with coach Jorge Souza De Brito, and the men's team with coach Sergio Veloso and his players Jau Umandal, Lloyd Josafat, JP Bugaoan, Noel Kampton, and Marck Espejo.
