Brooke Van Sickle drops career-high 36 as Petro Gazz downs Chery Tiggo in Game 1 of bronze series
Brooke Van Sickle registered a career-high 36 points as she led Petro Gazz past Chery Tiggo, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18, 27-29, 15-12, in Game 1 of the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference Battle for Bronze on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Van Sickle had 31 attacks, four blocks, and an ace, on top of 10 excellent receptions, as the Angels outlasted the Crossovers to move a win away from a podium finish.
After being tied at 4 in the deciding set, the Angels led by 9-4 to claim the early lead. However, Eya Laure and the rest of the Crossovers crawled their way back from a five-point hole and tied the game eventually at 12.
Van Sickle and MJ Phillips scored back-to-back to reach match point as an ace by KC Galdones sealed the victory for Petro Gazz.
Aside from Van Sickle, Jonah Sabete and Phillips scored in double digits, with the former posting 21, while the latter had 15 points.
Eya Laure had 23 points, while Ara Galang had 11 points for the Crossovers.
The two teams will face each other again on Sunday as Petro Gazz hopes to return to the podium after missing it in the last two conferences.
