FEU stuns NU to force do-or-die for Finals slot
Far Eastern University pulled off an upset against top-ranked National University, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23, to force a do-or-die for a finals slot in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Tamaraws, who were not able to beat the Lady Bulldogs in the elimination round, relied on its balance offense as Chenie Tagaod had 12 points, while Jean Asis and Mitzi Panangin had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
“Talagang ginusto talaga namin,” said FEU head coach Manolo Refugia. “Pumunta kami, nag ensayo kami, ginusto talaga ng mga players. Naniwala sila na kaya nila, na kaya ng team, na kaya naming lahat na talunin talaga ang NU.”
(We really wanted this win. We went to practice and they really wanted this. They believed that they can beat NU.)
Bella Belen was the only double-digit scorer for NU with 12 points.
FEU and NU will decide on who will advance to the Finals when they face again on Wednesday.
