Benilde teams hope to gain experience in PNVF Champions League

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde volleyball teams hope to gain experience in the PNVF Champions League which will open on Sunday, ahead of the upcoming NCAA volleyball season.

The Benilde men's and women's squads are among the teams which will compete in the tournament organized by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.

The Lady Blazers will play alongside the Petro Gazz Angels, Chery Tiggo, Cignal HD, and Philippine Army on the women's side, while the Benilde men's team will see action in Group A against PGJC Philippine Navy, and the Savouge Spin Doctors. Pool B will have the VNS Asereht Griffins, Iloilo D’Navigators, Philippine Air Force and Philippine Army.

"Main goal naman namin in this tournament is to get experience po from our ates," Jessa Dorog of the Lady Blazers said in a press conference on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

(Our main goal in the tournament is to get experience from our sisters.)

"I think we're looking forward to experiencing the advantages of each team kasi we believe madadala namin ito sa NCAA," echoed Bryle Gomez of the men's team.

(I think we're looking forward to experiencing the advantages of each team because we believe we can bring this in the NCAA.)

For champion coach Jerry Yee, the tournament will be a venue for the Lady Blazers to finetune their strategies ahead of their title defense.

"Sakto sa schedules, so we're looking for tuneups in the coming weeks, kumbaga nasa past preparation stage na, kumbaga fine tuning 'yung plays and everything," Yee said.

(This fits right in the schedules so we're looking for tuneups in the coming weeks, we're past the preparation stage so we're just fine tuning plays and everything.)

The Lady Blazers, who are back-to-back NCAA champions, also won the PNVF Challenge Cup back in November.
