Oliver Almadro named UP women's volleyball head coach
Oliver Almadro, who was recently named University of the Philippines volleyball program director, will also get to call the shots for the women's squad after he was appointed as the head coach come UAAP Season 86.
The school announced the development on Friday as Almadro will lead the overall rebuild of the team.
"I'm eager to take on this challenge of re-energizing the UP Fight in volleyball. There will be challenges, of course, but this is a blessing for me and hopefully, with the all-out support of the UP community and the guidance of the Lord, kakayanin nating mag-compete (we can compete)," said Almadro.
Almadro, who is also at the helm of Colegio de San Juan de Letran women's volleyball team in the NCAA, will have former UP standout Nicole Tiamzon and Jarod Hubalde as his deputies.
Almadro will inherit a UP squad that finished second to the last in the previous season, where the Fighting Maroons collected just one win in 14 games, as the likes of middle blcoker Niña Ytang and team captain Abi Goc are expected to lead the way anew.
Meanwhile, the UP men's volleyball team will be led by head coach Sergio "Vip" Isada with Carlo Cabatingan serving as his main assistant coach as they look to bounce back following a similar 1-13 record last Season 85.
