Roger Gorayeb leans on experience as Capital1 enters PVL
New team Capital1 Power Spikers will lean on experience as they make their debut in the Premier Volleyball League.
Head coach Roger Gorayeb said his own experience will also be a big help as he makes his return to the PVL.
"Ang mga hinahanap ko ay ‘yung may experience kasi biglaan lang ‘to eh," Gorayeb said in a press conference on Thursday.
(I'm looking for someone with experience since this is being rushed.)
Capital1's initial lineup includes Heather Guino-o, Janine Navarro, Rovie Instrella, and the likes of Aiko Urdas and Jorelle Singh. The team also held tryouts earlier this week and Gorayeb said they now have at least 20 players in mind from the tryouts.
Despite being a newcomer, Gorayeb hopes the team will not disappoint its owners come the PVL season.
"Yun lang, ang ganyang experience, bibitbitin ko lahat dito. Alam mo naman reputation ko sa ganyan, medyo mahigpit ako sa ensayo. Kaya, ayoko naman [bumaba] 'yung enthusiasm ng (owners)... talagang ‘Di tayo magpapatalo ha!’," Gorayeb said.
"Pipilitin ko pa rin, I will not promise na malaking malaki agad. We’ll do it slowly. Ayoko magsalita nang tapos, they took me in based on my experience and track record. Gagawin ko rin."

(I'll also bring my experience here. You know me as someone who is strict in training. I don't want the enthusiasm of the owners to be down, we will really fight. I'll still try. I will not promise that this will be already big at first. We'll do it slowly. I don't want to keep promises, but they took me in based on my experience and track record. I'll do it.)
Team owners Milka and Mandy Romero, meanwhile, hope their entry to the league will also inspire women in sports.
"What we want to promise is to put on a good show. Hopefully, we’ll also be able to get our fans, we want them to enjoy this game, to inspire future volleyball players, women in sports, our fans, hopefully," Milka said.
"It’s really a great honor to be part of the PVL and we don’t take that lightly. We are huge fans of the entire league. We hope that as being huge fans, we’ll get some fans as they start their first game," Mandy added.
The PVL is expected to open its season in February.
