PVL probes Gerflor situation

Gerflor Defenders PVL 2023 2nd All-Filipino Conference

The Premier Volleyball League on Thursday released a statement about the situation of the Gerflor Defenders.

In a statement, the PVL said they are currently investigating the team's situation.

"The PVL would like to inform everyone that the situation concerning the Gerflor Defenders and their players is currently under investigation," the league said.

PVL did not include other details regarding the situation.

"Rest assured, we are committed to conducting a thorough and fair inquiry into the matter, ensuring that both the team's representatives and the players involved will have an opportunity to be heard," it added.

"We take these matters seriously and will take all necessary steps to ensure the integrity and fairness of our league."

On Thursday night, the Gerflor Defenders said it is working to solve their team's problem.

In a statement, the team said, "We acknowledge the problem, and we are currently working on an immediate solution to resolve it."

"Rest assured that all matters will be resolved privately for the interest of everyone concerned," it added.

The team also clarified that it is a private club and is not connected with the Quezon City local government.

Recently, a Reddit post from an anonymous user was shared on social media which alleges some problems regarding operations of the team.

When asked about the post, Acaylar admitted that the team is facing a problem, although he did not specify.

"There's a problem. Alam n'yo na 'yun siguro, kumalat siya," Acaylar said when asked about the veracity of issues going around social media.

"Maybe it's up to management to answer that. Pero ayaw namin pangunahan ang management. Sabi ko sa kanila, susuporta ako sa inyo basta dapat maalagaan ang players namin," he added.

(There's a problem. You know that perhaps since it's going around. Maybe it's up to management to answer that, but we don't want to preempt them. I told them, I will support you as long as our players will be taken care of.)

For Acaylar, however, he would rather focus on their campaign.

"At the moment, trabaho muna namin ang iintindihin namin. At the end, saka kami kikilos o gagalaw if worse comes to worst," said the Gerflor coach.

"'Pag wala talaga, saka lang kami kikilos lahat."

(At the moment, we will take care of our duty. We will move if worse comes to worst. If there's none, then that's the time for us.)

The former national team coach also admitted that the team is low on its morale but he tries to manage and motivate them.

"Mababa ang morale nila. Sino ba namang players na talo na nga kami, sandamakmak pa ang problema. Pero I control my players," he said.

"Lahat ng natutunan ko to motivate the players, binigay ko sa kanila ngayon."

(Their morale is low. Who would expect something from players who have been losing and are still hounded by problems? But I control my players. Everything I've learned to motivate, I'm giving them.)

Gerflor player Danika Gendrauli, meanwhile, echoed Acaylar's focus on their campaign.

"Mina-mindset lang po namin na since pinasok na namin 'to, ipag-tuloy-tuloy pa rin namin. Minsan kasi, need din namin ng alam n'yo na. Every day, after training, nag-uusap kami ng teammates na i-set aside muna ang problema kasi makakaapekto 'yan sa game namin," Gendrauli said.

"Kung nakita n'yo yung game namin kanina, [napakita] talaga na di talaga namin mina-mind 'yung nangyayari sa labas."

(Our mindset it since we're here, then we should continue it. Sometimes, we also need something, you know it. Every day after training, our team talks to set aside the problem since it affects our game. As you can see earlier, we proved that we do not mind what's happening outside.)

Gerflor earlier lost to the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, 25-10, 25-16, 25-14, to go down to 0-6.
