Philippine men's volleyball squad falls to Indonesia in Asian Games opener

The Philippine national men's volleyball team fought, but ultimately fell short as it fell to Southeast Asian rival Indonesia, 22-25, 23-25, 20-25, in the 19th Asian Games on Tuesday at the DQ Sports Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.

The Filipinos dropped to 0-1 in Pool F while the Indonesians improved to 1-0.

Bryan Bagunas rallied the team in the match that lasted for one hour and 23 minutes as the former National University standout tallied 17 points built on 16 attacks and one ace laced with 11 excellent receptions.

Opposite hitter Steven Rotter chipped in nine markers while veteran Marck Espejo finished with eight.

Agil Angga Anggara led three Indonesian players who churned out double-digit scoring as he put together 11 points while Doni Haryono and Fahri Putratama each had 10 markers.

The Filipinos will next take on Afghanistan on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
