Jia de Guzman brings act to Japan, signs with Denso Airybees
For the first time in her illustrious career, Jia de Guzman is bringing her talents overseas.
The multi-titled setter has inked a deal to join the Denso Airybees in the prestigious Japan V. League Division 1, the team announced on Thursday as de Guzman ended a six-year run with her longtime club Creamline in the PVL.
"I am really looking forward to contribute everything I can for the Denso Airybees. Together with the coaches, staffs and my teammates, we will do our very best to train, fight and win this season," de Guzman said in a post on the team's website.
With the Cool Smashers, de Guzman was able to help the team win six championships, reigning supreme in the 2018 Reinforced Conference, and the Open Conference in 2018, 2019, and 2022. Creamline also copped the titles in 2022 Invitational Conference as well as 2023 All-Filipino Conference.
De Guzman is also a holder of multiple individual awards including eight Best Setter plums as well as four Finals MVP recognitions.
The 28-year-old De Guzman became the fourth Filipino volleyball player to play in V. League after Jaja Santiago, Bryan Bagunas, and Marck Espejo.
