La Salle sweeps Adamson to claim Shakey's Super League Invitationals title


De La Salle University swept Adamson University, 25-19, 25-22, 25-17, in Game 3 of their best-of-three finals series to claim the Shakey's Super League National Invitationals title on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

With some of its key players not seeing action in the game such as UAAP Most Valuable Player Angel Canino, and Fifi Sharma moving on to the pros, the Lady Spikers pulled off back-to-back wins after losing Game 1 of the series.

Shevana Laput paced the Taft-based squad with 13 points, while Thea Gagate, Alleiah Malaluan, and Amie Provido had 10 points apiece.

Lucille Almonte was the lone double-digit scorer for Adamson University with 11 points.

Prior to winning the crown, La Salle dispatched the Jose Maria College Foundation in the quarterfinals and University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals.

Individual awardees were also recognized on Sunday, with UST's Angeline Poyos being the 1st Best Outside Spiker, La Salle's Malaluan the 2nd Best Outside Spiker, La Salle's Thea Gagate and Amie Provido as the 1st and 2nd Best Middle Blocker, respectively, Shevana Laput as Best Opposite Spiker, UST's Bernadette Pepito as Best Libero, and Adamson's Angeline Alcantara as Best Setter. Laput was named as the MVP of the tournament.
