NU asserts mastery over La Salle for Shakey's Super League crown; Alyssa Solomon named MVP


National University swept De La Salle University, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, to take home the Shakey's Super League crown on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

 

 

Alyssa Solomon, who was also named as the Most Valuable Player, tallied 14 points, while Michaela Belen and Ces Robles chipped in 10 and 9 points, respectively, in the Lady Bulldogs' win.

 

 

Angel Canino led the Lady Spikers with 14 points while Thea Gagate and Alleiah Malaluan made 8 and 7 points, respectively. 

Meanwhile, Adamson University outlasted University of Santo Tomas in a five-setter, 25-27, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11, to take home the bronze medal.

Individual awardees in the tournament include:

Angel Canino (DLSU) - First best outside spiker
Mhicaela Belen (NU) - Second best outside spiker
Thea Gagate (DLSU) - First best middle blocker
Sheena Toring (NU) - 2nd best middle blocker
Louie Romero (AdU) - Best setter 
Alyssa Solomon (NU) - Best opposite spiker
Bernadette Pepito (UST) - Best libero

The Shakey's Super League is a preseason tournament as collegiate leagues like the UAAP and the NCAA start their regular volleyball seasons early 2023.
