Philippines puts up gallant stand in 3rd set but falls to Vietnam in 2022 AVC Cup for Women opener

The Philippine national women's volleyball team, bannered by the Creamline Cool Smashers, put up a gallant stand in the third set but fell to Vietnam, 25-19, 25-17, 31-29, on Sunday in the 2022 AVC Cup for Women at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.

Vietnam's Thi Thanh Thuy Tran led her team with 20 points anchored off 17 attacks and three aces, while Thi Nguyet Anh Pham and Thi Bich Thuy Tran added 10 points each for the win.

Meanwhile, Jema Galanza had 13 points from 11 attacks and two aces, while Michele Gumabao had 11 points.

The national team will be back in action on Tuesday when they play China.

Earlier, China swept Korea, 25-9, 25-8, 25-9, while Japan also swept Thailand, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.
