Creamline skipper Alyssa Valdez to miss Philippines' AVC Cup campaign

Veteran outside spiker Alyssa Valdez will miss the Philippines' campaign in the 2022 AVC Cup for Women set to be hosted by the country next week.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) national teams commissioner Tony Boy Liao confirmed the development to GMA News Online on Friday, saying the Creamline skipper won't see action in the competition slated from August 21 to 29.

Valdez was expected to lead the Philippine side against teams from China, Iran, South Korea, and Vietnam, all of whom they will face in the preliminary round starting on Sunday until Thursday.

With Valdez gone, only 13 players are left in the team.

The Creamline core of Tots Carlos, Jema Galanza, Jeanette Panaga, Jia de Guzman, Ced Domingo, and Kyla Atienza will lead the squad alongside other Cool Smashers Risa Sato, Michele Gumabao, Ella de Jesus, Pau Soriano, Kyle Negrito, Fille Cayetano, and Rose Vargas.

Liao said that Rizza Mandapat will replace Valdez in the roster.

Creamline earned the right to represent the country in the AVC tilt after ruling the 2022 PVL Invitational Conference where it defeated KingWhale Taipei in the finals.
