Cignal nears pool sweep with win vs Choco Mucho; Chery Tiggo picks up first W

Cignal continued to make a statement in the 2022 PVL Open Conference after stunning erstwhile undefeated Choco Mucho, 20-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-16, to inch closer to a sweep on Tuesday.

The HD Spikers now lead Pool A with an unblemished 3-0 card while Choco Mucho dropped to 2-1 for a two-way tie with F2 Logistics, which also fell to Cignal last Sunday.

Roselyn Doria showed the way for Cignal, churning out 17 points anchored on nine attacks and a whopping eight blocks while Ces Molina hammered out 14 markers.

Veterans Rachel Anne Daquis and Angeli Araneta also came out in the victory after they each poured in 10 points with the open spiker Daquis collecting 12 digs and six successful receptions.

The win virtually handed Cignal a twice-to-beat edge come the playoffs ahead of their last pool assignment on Black Mamba-Army on Thursday.

Meanwhile, reigning title holder Chery Tiggo finally broke out of slump after a three-set romp of hapless Army, 25-22, 25-27, 25-29, to barge into the win column.

Mylene Paat was unstoppable in the sweep victory after the lefty spiker listed a game-high 20 points off 14 attacks and four blocks while Dindin Santiago-Manabat racked up 17 markers.

The Crossovers improved to 1-3 while Army moved on the brink of elimination with an identical 1-3 record.
