Free agent Mika Reyes signs with retooled PLDT

Mika Reyes has finally found her new home.

The highly-touted middle blocker on Thursday signed with the revamped PLDT Home Fibr High Speed Hitters for the upcoming 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season starting next month.

Reyes' decision came after she was released by former club Sta. Lucia, which earlier announced that it is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the league.

"Darling of the crowd Mika M. Reyes is the last line to complete the strong connection of PLDT Home High Speed Hitters," said PLDT in a Facebook post.

"With her outstanding resume and long list of multiple championships in the UAAP and pro-leagues, she is ready to answer the team’s calling with her suitable, reliable, and experienced leadership on and off the court."

In PLDT, the 5-foot-11 former DLSU standout will boost a retooled roster that recently acquired the services of seasoned volleyball aces Jovy Prado, Dell Palomata, Kath Arado, Mean Mendrez, and Jessey de Leon.

PLDT also beefed up its arsenal by tapping young guns Jules Samonte and Heather Guino-o as well as veterans Wendy Samana, Fiola Ceballos, and Lhara Clavano.

Reyes will also be reunited with former Petron teammates Rhea Dimaculangan and Chin Basas, who, along with spikers Eli Soyud and Iza Viray, were retained by PLDT ahead of the new season.

The revamped PLDT squad will be led by recently-appointed head coach George Pascua.

PLDT will be Reyes' fifth club after she had stints with Meralco and F2 Logistics, where she teamed up mostly with players from her alma mater. Reyes then transferred to Petron which she steered to a number of championships before bringing her talents to the Lady Realtors in 2020.
