Mika Reyes in search of new team as Sta. Lucia takes leave of absence
Decorated middle blocker Mika Reyes has yet to find a new home following the decision of her former club, the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors, to take an indefinite leave of absence from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
According to Mark Salamat, Reyes' representative in Virtual Playground, the 27-year-old veteran has already secured her release from the Lady Realtors but has yet to ink a deal with another team.
"We're the ones talking to the interested teams," Salamat told GMA News Online.
"We just started last weekend since we just got the clearance from Sta Lucia late last week."
Reyes is one of the high-profile volleyball players in the country.
The former DLSU standout had stints with Meralco and F2 Logistics but her career would further blossom when she transferred to the Petron Blaze Spikers club, which she steered to three championships and a number of runner-up finishes from 2017 to 2019.
She, however, parted ways with Petron in 2020 and signed with Sta. Lucia, which wound up fifth in the 2021 PVL Open Conference.
As for her next team, Reyes is said to be looking for a club where she could reach her full potential, especially now that a number of rising middle blockers are in the league.
"[She is looking] for a team where she has a spot since there are better middle blockers now. She is also looking for the stability of the team and the long-term plan for sports marketing and volleyball in particular," Salamat added.
