Manileño Spikers sweep Global Remit, cop bronze in PNVF Champions League men's tilt
The VNS Manileño Spikers didn't drop a set as they secured a third place finish in the 2021 PNVF Champions League with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 victory over Global Remit on Saturday in Lipa City, Batangas.
John Benedict San Andres proved monumental for the Manileños, carving out 15 points, including two of their crucial last three points, while Mark Kevin Montemayor finished with 12 markers.
The Manileño Spikers immediately asserted dominance over the opposing camp after they erected a 2-0 set lead.
An open attack from San Andres in the third frame gave the Manileño Spikers a 16-11 cushion but Global Remit countered with a 7-4 rampage as both teams were separated by only two points at the 20-18 mark.
Up by two, 22-20, Manileño Spikers never looked back as San Andres launched a drop ball before John Daniel Diwa aced his service. San Andres then sealed the deal with another attack as VNS capped off a fruitful campaign.
The Manileño Spikers finished the preliminary round in second place in Pool A and arranged a semifinals duel with the Team Dasma Monarchs. They, however, fell in five sets to formally bow out of contention for the championship.
