Sabong Spikers book first PNVF Champions League win at Global Remit's expense

The Sabong International Spikers solidified their playoff bid after outlasting Global Remit in four sets, 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21, in the PNVF Champions League on Tuesday in Lipa City, Batangas.

Jelord Talisayan led the Sabong Spikers with 18 points while Charles Absin and Ramil De La Cruz poured in 15 and 10 markers, respectively, as they improved to 1-1. Global Remit, meanwhile, will remain winless at 0-2.

Sabong Spikers, who opened their campaign with a five-set loss to MRT-Negros on Monday, quickly asserted their dominance, winning two consecutive sets over a more veteran Global Remit side.

Global Remit, however, worked wonders to steal the third frame as they rallied behind open spiker Ron Medalla who went down with a knee injury late in the second set.

Three unanswered points from Sabong Spikers opened the fourth set and they even extended that lead to eight after an ace from Mark Joseph Racamora put them up at 19-11.

Global Remit tried to mount a late comeback, notching four straight points that put them behind just five, 18-23, but an error from their team captain Joeven Dela Vega proved costly as they handed the match point to the opponents, 20-24.

Another error from Dela Vega formally capped off the victory for Sabong Spikers, 25-20.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday with the Sabong Spikers facing Team Dasma Monarchs while Global Remit collides with MRT-Negros.
