Newly-formed Negros Occidental Beach Volleyball Club makes mark in BVR
The two-leg bubble of the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) on Tour may be over but one team made sure their stint was remarkable: the Negros Occidental Beach Volleyball Club.
The club, despite being just formed this year, reached the quarterfinals for the women's team of Bianca Lizares and MJ Ebro while the men's team of Eljhay Ronquilo and Deanne Neil de Pedro reached the top four.
For Lizares, her recent BVR experience was both challenging and humbling.
"A few days have gone since Beach Volleyball Republic concluded its momentous comeback after an almost two-year hiatus. Taking part in such an event was not only challenging, but also extremely humbling," Lizares wrote on her social media accounts.
"I feel so lucky to have been one of the very few players across the country to have had the chance to experience the BVR Bubble. Not only did I get to see old friends from the Beach Volleyball Community again, it was simply amazing to be back in the sand court and see everyone fight their hearts out," she added.
Lizares has been previously with the Sta. Lucia and Creamline squads. Ebro, meanwhile, had a stint with the Cignal HD beach volleyball team.
"The BVR bubble may be over, but the friendships built and the memories made will forever hold a special place in my heart. Here’s to more beach volleyball action," she said.
On the other hand, the pair of Ronquilo and De Pedro, reached the quarters of the second leg, despite Ronquilo suffering an injury during the knockout stage. The pair failed to advance to the semis during the first leg.
Creamline 1's Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons ruled the two legs of the BVR on Tour, while the duo of Krung Arbasto and Jude Garcia won the men's title on both legs of the tournament.
