Rondina, Pons rule first leg of BVR on Tour
The tandem of Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons proved once again that it’s one of the most dominant duos in beach volleyball in the country.
The dynamic pairing of Creamline 1 bested the pair of Good Health-CDO's Babylove Barbon and Gen Eslapor, 21-10, 21-16, to cap off a perfect run in the 2021 Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) on Tour first leg on Monday in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
Rondina and Pons, both of whom are part of the national team, swept all their games in the tournament without dropping a single set.
One of the winningest BVR athletes, Rondina captured her fourth gold overall and second with Pons. Before the tour took a long hiatus due to the pandemic, Rondina and Pons emerged victorious in the Lianga, Surigao del Sur leg on September 1, 2019.
Bagging the bronze, meanwhile, are also national team players Dzi Gervacio and Dij Rodriguez of Creamline 2 following a 21-18, 21-14 victory over Biogenic's Heather Guino-o and Roma Joy Doromal.
It was a double crown for Creamline as their men’s counterpart also brought home the gold.
Krung Arbasto and Jude Garcia outlasted PLDT's Rancel Varga and Efraem Dimaculangan, 21-19, 19-21, 15-12, to win the men’s title.
The second and final leg is slated for Thursday, October 28, at the same venue, with Rondina and Pons using the tournament as preparation for next month's Asian Seniors Beach Volleyball Championship.
