Charina Scott is one of the trusted middle blockers of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, which has one of the best volleyball programs in the NCAA.
From her position in the frontline, she sends balls back to where they came from to protect her side, serving as a wall against opposing attackers.
But according to Chino Trinidad's report on "24 Oras," Charina used to send balls straight at windows when she was just starting to learn the sport.
With all the glass she broke, she would get in trouble in school and the ball would be confiscated by officials.
"You'll only get it back when you plead to them and they acquiesce. Sometimes the parents had to get them back for you," she said in Filipino.
Charina used to play for Cavite State University in Naic before she was scouted by Perpetual. That was where she showed the defensive skills which earned her the nickname "Scottie."
Now that she hasn't played competitive volleyball in over a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, she had to find a way to cope without the matches.
"When I really miss playing, I would watch our previous games," she said. "You'll still feel the goosebumps because it's as if they only happened yesterday."
Asked about the lessons that volleyball has taught her, Charina said it's to push her limits so she would continue to grow.
"On the court, everyone is equal. There is no strong or weak, only those willing and brave enough will bring home the victory."
