Laure sisters carry UST to sweep FEU

University of Santo Tomas' EJ and Eya Laure combined for 28 points to sweep the Far Eastern University, 25-20, 25-16, 25-18, Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

EJ registered 16 points on 12 attacks, 3 blocks, and an ace while younger sister Eya listed 12 markers on 10 attack points.

This is the España-based squad's first win this season after losing to National University last week.

"Maganda service namin, although may mga lapses pa rin kami na di maiiwasan pero naicorrect naman namin," UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes said. "'Yun ang naging team effort, 'yung nilaro namin today so nakuha namin in straight sets," he added.

Czarina Carandang and Jeanette Villareal chipped in 7 points each for the Tamaraws.

Meanwhile, in the men's division, FEU edged out UST in a five-setter,  25-21, 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 15-12, to record their second win.

Jude Garcia registered 27 points on 21 attacks, three blocks, and three aces, and sealed the deal for the Morayta-based squad.

"[Ang] galing ng UST,"FEU head coach Rei Diaz said about their opponents. "Ang maganda syempre na-test 'yung kakayahan natin tsaka binigyan tayo ng magandang blessing, nakuha natin yung panalo, "he added.

FEU teams will be back in action on Wednesday against Adamson, while UST will face La Salle on Sunday. — DVM, GMA News
