NU teams take down UST in UAAP volleyball
National University opened their UAAP Season 82 campaign on a high note, snatching back-to-back victories in the men's and women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
In the women's game, NU outlasted University of Santo Tomas in a five-set thriller, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13.
The Lady Bulldogs also spoiled the comeback of EJ Laure, who missed two seasons with the Golden Tigresses.
Rookie Margot Mutshima had a game-high 23 points for NU, while Ivy Lacsina added 19 markers. Skipper Risa Sato, who returned to the NU roster after sitting out a year, also scored 17 points.
Eya Laure led the Tigresses with 20 markers, while Imee Hernandez added 18 points. EJ had 17 points.
In men's action, NU outmuscled UST in four sets, 27-25, 23-25, 25-19, 27-25.
Angelo Almendras spearheaded the Bulldogs with 20 points while Joshua Umandal led the Tigers with 25 markers. Rookie Edward Camposano debuted with 19 points, while James Natividad added 11.
UST's Jhun Senoron and Manuel Medina had 15 and 14 markers, respectively.
NU will next face the teams of Adamson University on Sunday, while UST will try to get wins against the Far Eastern University on the same day. All games will be held at the MOA Arena. —MGP, GMA News
