In front of a crowd of 14,726, UST dethroned the defending champions DLSU Lady Spikers in a thrilling five-setter, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-10, to book a ticket to the UAAP 81 women's volleyball Finals, Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
UST led as much as five in the middle of the final set, 10-5. DLSU played catch up with UST, making mini-runs and eventually closing the gap to 11-10. However, the Golden Tigresses showed more heart, eventually making a 4-0 run to seal the victory.
This is the first time after eight years that the España-based squad will return to the Finals. They last played in the Finals in Season 73, against La Salle, where they ended as bridesmaids.
Unfortunately for La Salle, the defeat will snap their 10-year streak in the women's volleyball Finals.
UST will now wait for the winner of the do-or-die game between FEU and Ateneo which will happen on Wednesday.
Earlier, the NU Bulldogs won over the Adamson Falcons in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-20, to set-up their title defense against the FEU Tamaraws. — LA, GMA News
