Alex Eala pairing excites Felix Auger-Aliassime ahead of US Open mixed doubles
World No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime said he is excited to team up with Alexandra Eala in the US Open mixed doubles tournament.
The pair is among the wildcards in the main draw, which is scheduled for August 25 and 26 in New York.
“It’s a great opportunity because obviously, I didn’t play last year, but this time around, to kind of feel what it’s like to have the Eala effect and fan base behind me. It’s going to be funny because she’s younger than me, but I feel like I’m the one that’s like, you know, she has the fan base, right? Like she’s carrying the crowd, so it’s going to be interesting,” Auger-Aliassime said Tuesday (Ohio time) in an interview with Tennis Channel.
According to the Canadian player, he and Eala share the same agency, and members of their respective teams helped make the partnership happen.
Auger-Aliassime’s run in the Cincinnati Open ended on Thursday after he fell to Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 16, 6-3, 6-4.
Eala, meanwhile, bowed out in the Round of 32 of the WTA 1000 event after falling to Amanda Anisimova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
