Who is Alex Eala's Miami Open semis foe Jessica Pegula?

Alex Eala hopes to continue her dream run in the Miami Open as she takes on Jessica Pegula in the semifinals on Friday morning.

Pegula, a 31-year old player from the United States, is ranked 4th by the Women's Tennis Association.

She reached the finals of the 2024 US Open but fell to reigning world no. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Pegula has also played in the quarterfinals of other Grand Slam tournaments: thrice in the Australian Open (2021, 2022, 2023), once in the French Open (2022), and once in Wimbledon (2023).

She reached world no. 3 in her singles ranking in October 2022, and a career-high no. 1 in doubles ranking in September 2023.

She has seven pro titles under her belt, including a W1000 level championship in the 2024 National Bank Open.

Prior to her meeting with Eala, Pegula defeated Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinals. Eala, meanwhile, dispatched world no. 2 Iga Swiatek.
