Nadal congratulates Alex Eala on Miami Open upset vs Ostapenko
Tennis icon Rafael Nadal congratulated Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala on her upset win against Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in the Miami Open.
WTA no. 140 Eala defeated former French Open champion and WTA no. 25 Ostapenko, 7-6 (2), 7-5, on early Saturday (Philippine time) in the tournament's Round of 64.
"Congratulations Alex! What a great win for you and for the Philippines (Philippine flag emoji)," Nadal wrote in his post while quoting a video of Eala's victory on Saturday.

Eala studied in the Rafael Nadal Academy where she graduated in 2023.
The Filipina tennis player also reunited with Nadal last February.
Eala will face 2025 Australian Open champion and WTA no. 5 Madison Keys of the United States in the Round of 32.
