Weightlifting back in Palarong Pambansa as demo sport, says Hidilyn Diaz

Weightlifting is back in the Palarong Pambansa as a demonstration sport, according to the Philippines' first Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
Diaz shared the development on social media.
"It started as a dream, and finally, weightlifting is included as a demonstration sport in the Palarong Pambansa," Diaz said in the caption of her post.
"I have long hoped for my sport to once again be part of the biggest national sporting event for student-athletes in the Philippines. Now, it’s finally happening."
Diaz thanked those who helped in fulfilling the idea such as the Department of Education and Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas.
"The technical working group and I are doing our best, working hard on this, and hoping it will soon become a regular sport."
This year's Palarong Pambansa will be held in Ilocos Norte from May 24 to June 2.
In a post, the Philippine Sports Commission said preparations are in full swing for the sports event.
Around 15,000 participants, from athletes to coaches and officials, are expected to join the Palaro this year.
