Hidilyn Diaz elevated to PSA Hall of Fame
Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz will be inducted to the Philippine Sportswriters Association's Hall of Fame in its annual Awards Night on January 27.
Diaz will be recognized for her Olympic success as she bagged a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics and won the country's first Olympic gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics four years ago. Aside from these, Diaz also won different international tournaments which made her deserving of a spot in the Hall of Fame.
The 33-year old weightlifter from Zamboanga was also named PSA Athlete of the Year four times (2016, 2018, 2021, 2022) and will join the likes of eight-division boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, world-class bowlers Paeng Nepomuceno and Bong Coo, chess grandmaster Eugene Torre, pool icon Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, the late FIDE president Florencio Campomanes, and the late trackster Lydia De Vega.
Other athletes and sports personalities will be recognized in the PSA Awards Night such as gymnast Carlos Yulo (Athlete of the Year), the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (NSA of the Year), Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino (Executive of the Year), June Mar Fajardo (Mr. Basketball), Kevin Quiambao (Mr. Basketball - amateur), and Jia De Guzman (Ms. Volleyball).
