Steph Lazo, whose four-goal outing during their tournament opener against China proved pivotal, showed up once again in the bronze medal game and dropped five goals this time around.
Sarah Nelson, Lizzie de Guzman, and Cat Roxas, meanwhile, added three points each to help the cause.
“This means absolutely everything,” Lazo said.
“From the very start of this tournament, we faced adversity and stuck together. We adapted and adjusted, and this means so much for our country.”
Prior to the win, the Philippines had already been assured of a spot in the world championship slated next year after a 2-0 start to their campaign in the APAC event. This will mark the first time in history that the country is participating in the world tournament.
Japan, meanwhile, won the gold after defeating Australia for the title, 9-5.
