KUALA LUMPUR — Denver "Yeb" Miranda and Tony "Ynot" Senedrin have fulfilled something they had only been dreaming of since time immemorial.
Yeb and Ynot, who both assume different roles for ONIC Esports organization, helped steer Fnatic ONIC Philippines to the top of M6 World Championship after the Filipinos swept the tournament to deliver the country's fifth straight world title.
Yeb is part of the management side as vice president of ONIC Esports while Ynot is currently the coach of the Fnatic ONIC team.
This was a dream the two had been thinking about since their friendship started way back 2008. And as they turned that into reality, Yeb is nothing but proud to see his longtime friend prove his caliber on the global scale.
"Masaya. It’s just that, ako bago ko sila nakasama eh, si Coach Ynot, bata pa kami magkaibigan na, iba naman ‘yon," Yeb shared after Fnatic ONIC dominated Team Liquid Indonesia in the grand finals last Sunday at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.
"Pero syempre ‘yung mga dating anak ko, I mean M3 Onic Philippines [and] M5 Onic Indo, lahat ‘yun pinangarap kong manalo ng M-series. So parang dala-dala ko sila na kahit papaano, finally nakuha na ng Onic."
[Happy. It's just that, before I joined everyone, Coach Ynot and I were friends since we were young. That's different... Of course, with my old teams, M3 Onic Philippines and M5 Onic Indonesia, I hoped to win the M-series with them. So I still carry them with me, finally, Onic is able to win it.]
Yeb and Ynot met 16 years ago when he was starting out his career in DOTA, which eventually led them to Mobile Legends: Bang Bang with the two almost teaming up in one team.
At the time, though, Yeb had prioritized other things in life.
"Galing kami sa DOTA siguro 2008. Sila ‘yung senior no’n sa scene tapos ako ‘yung new blood so ibig sabihin mas matanda siya sa akin," Yeb shared in jest.
"Doon ko siya nakilala hanggang sa nakasama ko siya nang matagal na panahon. Kung hindi niyo alam, bumuo rin kami ng team ng Mobile Legends. Kasama dapat ako doon sa Geek Fam kaso may pinili lang akong ibang priorities that time."
[We came from DOTA around 2008. He was the senior in the scene and I was new blood so that means he's older than me. That's where I met him until we were able to be friends for a long time. If you don't know, we built a team in Mobile Legends. I was supposed to be part of Geek Fam but I chose other priorities during that time.]
Fast forward to the present, Yeb and Ynot are now finally in one squad.
In fact, Yeb also played a huge part in Ynot's arrival in Fnatic ONIC.
"Siguro kasi parehas kaming nag-a-agree doon sa gusto naming culture," Yeb, who previously served as Onic Indonesia's multi-titled coach, said.
"Nu’ng Omega ata siya or Geek Fam or nakalimutan ko na, ni-recommend niya ako na maging coach ng Cignal Ultra tapos after many years, nu’ng nangailangan naman si Onic Philippines, siya naman ‘yung ni-recommend ko kasi kilala ko na rin siya. Alam ko namang matured na siya and alam ko kung gaano siya kagaling."
[I guess we both agree on what we kind of culture we want... When he was in Omega or Geek Fam, I'm not that sure, he recommended that I become coach of Cignal Ultra and after many years, when Onic Philippines was the one with the opening, I recommended him. I knew he was matured and I knew how good he was.]
