Team Liquid ID upsets SRG, arranges M6 finale showdown vs. Fnatic ONIC

KUALA LUMPUR — Team Liquid Indonesia is off to Mobile Legends' biggest stage.

The Indonesian champions wielded the upset ax against hometown heroes Selangor Red Giants with a clean 3-0 sweep during the M6 World Championship lower bracket finals on Saturday at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Team Liquid ID thus arranged a grand finals showdown against Fnatic ONIC set on Sunday at the same venue.

The duo of jungler Favian "Faviannn" Putra and gold laner Sultan "AeronnShikii" Muhammad stole the show in the first two games that allowed the reigning MPL Indonesia champion to take a crucial match point at 2-0.

Both playing on the world stage as rookies, Faviannn first dropped an impressive 8/2/6 KDA on his Joy before AeronnShikii unleashed his masterful use of Moskov in Game 2, leading the last base siege as they moved a win away from the grand finals.

It just snowballed from then on with Faviannn now using Suyou, picking off Filipino exp laner Mark "KramM" Rusiana (Edith) and mid laner Muhammad "Yums" Suhairi (Aurora) during the crucial team clash at SRG's base that led to a clean wipeout.

With the loss, SRG failed to complete a rare golden road after ruling the MPL Malaysia twice in a row and the Mid-Season Cup last July.

Team Liquid now heads to its third match against Fnatic ONIC in this tournament alone, falling to the MPL Philippines champions in both time. The Filipinos pulled off a 1-0 win during their Swiss Stage meeting then eked out a 3-1 decision during their upper bracket finals encounter.

Filipino coach Michael "Arcadia" Bocado said despite the loss, he still tips his hat to the Indonesians.

"I think Team Liquid is playing really good. Maybe in the first game I take accountability because I did not give them the best draft that my team can get," Arcadia said.

"The [games] 2 and 3, we fixed the issue but Team Liquid was playing good so props to them."
