Aurora ends M6 run, gets boot after bowing to Team Liquid ID
Aurora bowed out of contention in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M6 World Championship after absorbing a sweep 0-2 loss to Indonesian champion Team Liquid in their Swiss Stage match on Wednesday in Malaysia.
With Aurora's tough beating, it would be the first time in M-Series history since the M1 edition, which was also staged in Malaysia in 2019, that a Philippine team will not be advancing to the knockout round.
The loss also meant that the country's title defense bid now lies in the hands reigning MPL Philippines champion Fnatic ONIC, which has already secured a playoff ticket after going 3-0 in the Swiss Stage.
Aurora's jungler Jonard "Demonkite" Caranto was able to steal the lord on his Alpha, but three of their members fell down during the crucial team clash that proved advantageous to Team Liquid ID.
Midlaner Kenneth "Yue" Tadeo would then get picked off, setting the stage for the Indonesia powerhouse to finish it off in 16 minutes to secure Game 1 of the best-of-three series.
Yehezkiel ended up bagging the MVP honors after introducing a surprise Xavier pick on the middle lane and unleashing an impressive five kills and 11 assists while going deathless.
However, Aurora failed to regroup come Game 2 with Team Liquid ID wiping out Aurora to complete a sweep victory behind gold laner Aeronnshikii's perfect 9/0/5 KDA on his Bruno.
Aurora was still gracious in defeat, saying their loss only shows that other regions and countries have started to keep up with the Philippines, which has been ruling the world stage ever since M2.
"I think that only really means every region and every team has stepped up and every one can fight against each other now," Aurora head coach Aniel "MasterTheBasics" Jiandani said.
"I think they’re still the Liquid ID that we know and they are a better team than us right now, that’s why they are able to get that win."
