Fnatic ONIC nears M6 knockout ticket; Aurora on verge of early exit after bowing to NIP Flash
Fnatic ONIC Philippines continued its dominant run in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang M6 World Championship after making quick work of Cambodia's CFU Gaming, 1-0, in the Swiss Stage on Friday in Malaysia.
The reigning MPL Philippines champion improved to 2-0 and is now a win away from booking one of the eight spots in the knockout stage.
A diversion play from CFU Gaming at the 14th minute mark didn't bother the Filipino representatives despite roamer Borris "Brusko" Parro (Khaleed) and exp laner Jann "Kirk" Gutierrez going down during that pivotal team fight.
Midlaner Frince "SuperFrince" Ramirez (Cecilion) then called the Bats Feast that picked off two CFU Gaming members before jungler Cyric "K1NGKONG" Perez completed the wipeout on his Suyou.
SuperFrince and K1NGKONG made sure to finish it off as the two marched on the middle lane alongside the minion waves en route to the quick victory.
Meanwhile, Aurora remained in search of its breakthrough win after dropping another match, this time against NIP Flash of Singapore, 0-1, on Friday in Malaysia.
With the loss, Aurora fell to a tough 0-2 card in the Swiss Stage. They also moved a loss away from absorbing an early exit in the global conclave.
"Basically what we wanted to do was to just play our game. It doesn't matter what they picked, we just wanted to play our game--that's our mindset for this game," Aurora head coach Aniel "Master The Basics" Jiandani said.
"Apparently, we still haven't found that game, we haven't been able to show it yet so that's why we still have to look back on what we did before in order to move forward."
Aurora admitted they were outplayed by the Singaporean champions with gold laner Keith "Vanix" Lim succeeding on the lord dance at the 10th minute mark on his Moskov.
Filipino jungler Jaymark "Hadess" Lazaro shone for NIP Flash with five kills and eight assists on his Joy to earn the MVP honors. Aside from Hadess, another Filipino import in Jankurt "Kurtzy" Matira is suiting up for the Singaporean club as its midlaner.
Aurora, though, isn't losing hope despite the back-to-back losses to open its M6 campaign. They are now in a do-or-die situation as they move into the third round of the Swiss Stage.
"Because the next matches will be best-of-three games, I hope we can really adjust to these games. We just need to review what happened in the past two games and find out what really happened and what we need to improve on," Master The Basics added.
