POC reelects Tolentino as president
The Philippine Olympic Committee general assembly reelected Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino as its president.
Cycling's Tolentino won against baseball's Chito Loyzaga, 45-15, as 61 members voted on Friday at the East Ocean Garden Restaurant in Parañaque City.
“I think performance was the basis [of landslide victory],” Tolentino said.
“It’s not for me, but for the country, for the POC, and for our athletes,” he eventually added.
Tolentino, who first held the top post in 2019, will serve another four-year term.
Basketball's Al Panlilio, who ran unopposed, was elected as first vice president, while fencing's Richard Gomez defeated Carl Sambrano (skateboarding) and Robert Bachmann (wushu) for the second vice president post.
Surfing's Dr. Jose Raul Canlas, who also ran unopposed, was elected treasurer, while Don Caringal of volleyball was elected as internal auditor against Rodrigo Roque.
Leonora Escollante (canoe-kayak), Alvin Aguilar (wrestling) Ferdinand Agustin (jiu-jitsu), Alexander Sulit (judo) and Leah Gonzales (fencing) were elected as part of the executive board.
