Daniel Quizon becomes 17th Filipino chess GM

Daniel Quizon became the 17th chess grandmaster (GM) of the Philippines.

The 20-year old Quizon of Cavite achieved the GM rank as he breached the 2500-rating barrier and defeated Russian-born Monegasque GM Igor Efimov.

Quizon became the latest Filipino GM after Oliver Barbosa and Richard Bitoon achieved the said rank in 2011.

He is also expected to receive P1M cash incentive from Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga.
