Tab Baldwin on reports linking him to New Zealand national team: 'Just speculations'

Ateneo Blue Eagles coach Tab Baldwin

Ateneo de Manila University head coach Tab Baldwin described as 'speculation' the talk about him being in contention to become head coach of the New Zealand men's basketball team.

Baldwin said this as a report on New Zealand-based publication The Post said he was in the mix of names of contenders for the Tall Blacks coaching job.

"I'm employed by Ateneo, I have a contract through 2025," Baldwin said on the sidelines of a UAAP press conference on Wednesday.

He leaves it up to the Blue Eagles management what will happen to his contract after 2025.

"Maybe it's up to how we'll do this year," he said.

Baldwin also said "There's no offer from anybody," when asked about a potential offer from the Tall Blacks.

Baldwin added that these were "just speculations."

"Anytime there's a coaching change in a place as significant as a national team in New Zealand, people speculate," he said.

Baldwin, a former head coach of the Tall Blacks, was inducted in the New Zealand Basketball Hall of Fame back in 2023.

Under his belt, the Tall Blacks won the FIBA Oceania Championship in 2001, and silver medals in 2003 and 2005. New Zealand also finished fourth in the FIBA World Championship in 2002.

Baldwin also handled the national teams of Jordan, Lebanon, and Gilas Pilipinas.

In Ateneo, Baldwin steered the Blue Eagles to four UAAP titles, with the most recent one in Season 85.
