Carlos Yulo gets two lots from POC; Petecio, Villegas get houses, too
Filipino Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo received not just one, but two houses and lots from the Philippine Olympic Committee, as the organization delivered on its promise for Olympic gold medalists.
The POC said Yulo's two-storey houses sit on a 500 sqm lot appraised at around P15 million, according to the sports body's secretary-general Atty. Wharton Chan.
Bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas, meanwhile, were given bungalows on 200-sqm lots.
“It’s now a tradition, first Hidilyn Diaz deserved all the best for giving the country its first Olympic gold medal and now, it’s the turn of Caloy [Yulo], Nesthy and Aira to be feted with the same reward for their historic efforts,” POC president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said in a press release on Tuesday.
“These athletes invested their lives into the sports they love and now, they’re reaping the fruits of their sacrifices,” he added.
“The POC doesn’t think twice about these rewards, an Olympic medal, regardless of color, is the most precious medal in sports,” said Tolentino.
Yulo and the boxers received rewards from the different government offices and the private sector for their achievement in the recent 2024 Paris Olympics.
