Ernie Gawilan missed out on the podium after placing sixth among eight competitors in the men's 400m freestyle S7 finals round at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on Monday at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Gawilan clocked five minutes and 3.18 seconds to end his campaign in his third Paralympics stint.

Italy's Federico Bicelli displayed a clutch performance, taking over the top spot at the 300m-mark en route to the gold medal after an impressive 4:38.70 finish.

Andrii Trusov of Ukraine bagged the silver after clocking 4:40.17 while Inaki Basiloff of Argentina registered 4:40.27 to take the bronze medal, beating Evan Austin of USA who topped the preliminary round but emerged fourth in the finals.

Gawilan, who placed third during the eliminations, formally closed out his Paris run that saw him compete in two events. He also saw action in the men's 200m individual medley but wound up last in the field
