Alex Eala falls short vs Romania's Ruse, misses US Open main draw

Alex Eala fell short against Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the third round of the US Open qualifying draw on early Friday (Philippine time) to end her bid for a slot in the Grand Slam tournament's main draw.

In a social media post, Eala thanked those who supported her during the match.

"Gusto kong magpasalamat sa lahat ng nanood at nag-cheer sa akin kanina, sa personal man o sa livestream. Salamat lalong-lalo na sa pamilya ko, sa mga taong hindi pumasok sa trabaho, at sa mga lumakbay ng malayo para lang mapanood ang laban ko," she wrote in the caption of her post.

"Narinig at naramdaman ng puso ko ang bawat sigaw at bawat palakpak niyo para sa akin. Maraming maraming salamat mga Kababayan."

Eala said her loss was painful but believes she will eventually get there soon.

"May tiwala ako na kahit masakit ang talo ngayon, may plano sa akin si Lord, kaya sigurado ako na makukuha ko din ‘to balang araw."

Prior to the loss, Eala had back-to-back wins against Maddison Inglis of Australia and Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain.
