Dricus Du Plessis submits Israel Adesanya at UFC 305

Dricus Du Plessis made a successful first defense of the UFC middleweight world title following a fourth-round submission over ex-champion Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 305 this Sunday (Philippine time) at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

Du Plessis and Adesanya fought on their feet in the opening round, throwing punches and kicks of their own. In round two, Du Plessis scored a takedown and attempted to choke Adesanya but the latter slipped out and got back on his feet.

Both fighters landed significant strikes of their own in round three. Adesanya, punching the body since the early going, got caught with a series of right hands and was taken down anew in the fourth stanza.

Once on the mat, Du Plessis went to work and forced Adesanya to tap from a rear-naked choke at the 3:38 mark of round 4. The win improved Du Plessis' mixed martial arts record to 22-2 while Adesanya fell to 24-4.
