Singapore president on PH Olympic feat: We shine a bit of reflected glory

Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam praised Filipino athletes particluraly double gold Olympic medalist Carlos Yulo, following their success in the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

Tharman lauded the Filipino Olympians during his bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., a part of his three-day state visit to the Philippines. 

“There is just something very impressive about Filipino athletes. Mr. Yulo’s two golds… he is the only athlete from Southeast Asia, from an ASEAN nation who’s had two Olympic golds ever in any sport,” Tharman told Marcos. 

“So, it’s a real milestone. It’s a real milestone for all of us,” Tharman added. “I mean we shine a bit of a reflected glory of the Philippines.”

Marcos then thanked his Singaporean counterpart and said the Philippines is very proud of its athletes.

“The welcome that the people gave was really overwhelmin," Marcos said.

"They just have, yesterday, they arrived a day before yesterday. Yesterday he had a big parade through the city. Because Yulo, who won two golds, comes from the city of Manila,” he added. —NB, GMA Integrated News
