EJ Obiena receives P500K cash incentive from City of Manila

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena received his P500,000 worth of cash incentive from the City of Manila.

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna handed the incentive to Obiena on Wednesday.

In a post on her social media page, Lacuna said Obiena's performance in the 2024 Paris Olympics made the city proud.

Obiena placed fourth in the pole vault finals.

"We congratulate Ernest John Obiena on his best Olympics finish so far in his still young athletics career. The 4th place finish was his best effort at that high-pressure moment," said Lacuna.

"Our Manileño pole vaulter from Tondo and fellow Thomasian is proudly and joyfully welcomed in the country’s capital now that he is back home with his family, friends, and neighbors."

Lacuna also expressed her gratitude and best wishes to Obiena as the Filipino pole vaulter heads for another international trip.

"Isa kang Bayaning Manileño, EJ. Mahal ka namin dito sa Magnificent Manila," the Mayor added.

Obiena and some of the Filipino Olympians arrived from Paris on Tuesday.
